The Mount Sinai Hospital, New York City, Selects Nonin Medical Capnography Monitors
Nonin Medical, Inc., the inventor of finger pulse oximetry and a leader in noninvasive medical monitoring, announced that the company has sold a large number of RespSense™ capnography monitors to The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. The devices will be used by the hospital’s respiratory care staff to monitor the breathing of patients at locations throughout the hospital such as the cardiac catheterization laboratory, the emergency room and the respiratory therapy department. The Mount Sinai Hospital is a 1,171-bed, tertiary-care teaching facility acclaimed internationally for excellence in clinical care.
Capnography is a non-invasive monitoring technique that measures the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in a patient’s exhaled air. Several professional medical societies, including the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the American Heart Association, recommend the use of capnography to monitor patients who receive moderate to deep sedation during medical procedures and during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The effective use of capnography provides verification of adequate respiration and alerts medical personnel to changes in ventilation, respiratory distress and the effectiveness of CPR efforts.
"Nonin is committed to providing accurate, easy-to-use and cost-effective capnography solutions,” said Jim Zimmerman, Vice-President of Marketing for Nonin Medical. “It’s gratifying to know that leading institutions such as The Mount Sinai Hospital have identified our products as best fitting their patient safety requirements."
Highly portable with a widescreen touch-panel display, Nonin’s RespSense and LifeSense® capnography monitors are suitable for infant through adult patients and can be used in a wide range of clinical settings.
